Academics

The academic program at Unity School was developed to speak to the needs of a child’s growing brain and result in well-rounded students prepared for the competitive high school and college environment that awaits them in the 21st century.

Our Preschool students thrive in a challenging Montessori environment that gives them exposure to a broad foundation of topics while allowing for each child’s individual pace.  Their day includes outdoor play time and dedicated classes in Lessons in Living, music, P.E., and Spanish each week.  Preschool students also work with the Music Department on preparing pieces for the annual Holiday and Spring Concerts.

In Kindergarten, students transition to a traditional progressive curriculum that is, on average, a grade level ahead of standard curriculum.  The addition of weekly art, music, technology, Spanish and library classes, physical education classes and the continued Lessons in Living class further enhance the elementary experience through fifth grade.  In the fifth grade, students are also encouraged to participate in our competitive athletics program including teams for basketball, flag football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis and volleyball.  Care Kids, a community service organization affiliated with the Kiwanis Club of Delray Beach, is also offered as a leadership opportunity for our fifth graders.

Unity Middle School’s academic program is based on the departmental system.  Students have a dedicated homeroom and spend periods in each subject matter including language arts, social studies, science, math and technology.  On top of standard art, music, physical education, Spanish and Lessons in Living / Leadership classes, Middle Schoolers are also given a broad range of electives based on their interests.
